Knowing your Terminology

When I first started working at AdultShop, I thought I knew pretty much all there was to know about sex. Boy was I wrong! I learned pretty quickly that knowing the right terminology was essential, both to be professional in my job and to avoid embarrassing moments where you hope the ground will open up and swallow you!

Now, Dogging is the practise of watching or engaging in exhibitionist sexual behaviour in a public space, but I didn't know that! I thought he was referring to dog fights and being the animal lover I am, started to tell him that AdultShop didn't condone animal abuse and that he needed to take a long hard look at himself in the mirror! CRINGE!!! My manager was standing right there and quickly hushed me and explained what Dogging actually meant. Needless to say, I felt like a right goose and apologised profusely while turning an alarming shade of red. Luckily our customers are wonderful and we all had a bit of a giggle over it.
It was then and there that I decided to learn as much as I could about different types of fetishes and kinks.
So here are some practises that you may not know about, or have been curious about but too shy to ask....
-
BDSM
This is an abbreviation for Bondage, Discipline (or Domination), Sadism (or Submission) and Masochism. BDSM includes an extremely wide range of activities, from light spanking and dominant/submissive role playing to bondage parties and pain play.
-
Pegging
Simply put, it is the practise in which a woman anally penetrates a man with a strap-on. Men may find the stimulation of the anus and specifically the prostate extremely enjoyable. There are a variety of strap-ons available.
The typical strap on has a harness and a dildo which is attached to the harness via an O-ring or straps.
There are also knicker sets in which the dildo attaches to the underwear via an O ring.
A strapless strap-on is particularly enjoyable for both parties as rather than straps, the device is held in place by insertion into the vagina.
Dildos for straps-ons can be vibrating or non vibrating depending on your requirements.

Animal Role-Play/Pet Play
Now this has absolutely nothing to with bestiality, (you already know my stance on animal cruelty, lol), which is obviously controversial and frowned upon in most if not all circles. This is role play where one participant plays the role of a particular animal. It can be often found in BDSM contexts where an individual may take part in a dominant/submissive relationship by being treated like an animal. Some popular role plays are pony-play, kitten-play, puppy-play and fox/hunter role-plays. You are only limited to your imagination. AdultShop sell gorgeous fox, pony and bunny tail anal plugs. To be honest, there is nothing quite like the soft fur of a fox-tail swishing against your bare backside. Many stores may also sell, dog bone or bridle gags, collars and leads, ear headbands plus we always have a range of crops to complete your outfit!
-
Caging or Male Chastity
These devices deny sexual pleasure by caging the penis and preventing an erection. As with anything, there are a variety of styles, but the most common cage we stock is the lockable, metal cage, that the partner or dominant has the key to.This allows for urination and hygiene practices, however if the male starts to feel aroused, the cage constricts him sometimes resulting in pain. Some couples see it as a symbol of commitment, others as a tool in BDSM.
-
Cuckolding
Basically this is a fetish or kink where a person in a relationship gets turned on by witnessing their partner having sex with someone else. Obviously not great if you have a jealous streak. I myself would not look good in prison attire so steer well clear of such practices, lol.
-
Figging
This is a practise that was initially used as corporal punishment but has been adopted by the BDSM community. It involves inserting a piece of peeled ginger root into the anus or vagina, resulting in a painful burning sensation and often arousal, as ginger is considered a powerful aphrodisiac.
-
Findom
This stands for financial domination. In simple terms, the submissive purchases expensive gifts, sends money or hands over complete financial control, generally to a dominant female. There is no sexual exchange and generally the two participants never meet in person. The act of handing over financial responsibility is said to be a form of escapism for the submissive.
-
Collared
Often considered a powerful symbol in the world of BDSM. Wearing a collar indicates a persons submissive or slave status in a BDSM relationship. To many it can have a similar significance to a wedding ring.
-
Shibari/Kinbaku
Is an ancient Japanese artistic form of rope bondage. Shibari techniques tread the fine line between pleasure and pain. Knots and ties are positioned to heighten sensuality and stimulate pressure points and erogenous zones. It's actually quite visually beautiful and very interesting to watch. I've personally seen some amazing examples on Instagram, ranging from simple ties to insanely intricate bondage. Usually Jute or Hemp rope is used as it holds a knot well and doesn't slip.
-
Mummification
Honestly this form of bondage makes me want to run screaming for the hills, (you've got to know your limits), however I can understand that some people would enjoy the act of completely giving up control to another person and certainly the sensory deprivation would be stimulating. Essentially, mummification is the act of being wrapped up and completely immobilised. It is considered an extreme form of bondage and is definitely not to be entered into lightly. Participants should have a clear discussion beforehand about limits and a safe-word. The wrap itself can vary from cling wrap type products, bandages, bondage tape, leather and custom made bags specific to this type of bondage.
-
Temperature Play
A very popular technique that uses heat or cold to stimulate erogenous zones. You can start off slow, perhaps with a warming or cooling lubricant. A simple ice cube can be electrifying when used on your partner, especially if the partner is blindfolded and/or retrained to the bed. On the warming side of things, we sell warming massage candles, you light the candles and pour liquid over your partner massaging into their body. A more intense version are drip candles, which you light and drip the hot wax onto the skin. Glass toys are perfect for temperature play, as you can easily warm up and cool down, using water.
-
Sensation Play
This practise involves the enhancement of the senses, sometimes by the deprivation of others. For example, when you take away sight by the use of a blindfold, other senses seem to become stronger. So the touch of a feather or drizzle of warm honey can become extremely titillating.
-
Sounding
Urethral sounding is a practise where pleasure is derived from inserting objects into the urethra of the penis. Originally this was a medical procedure to stretch the urethra, but men quickly learned it could be a very pleasurable experience as the urethra if filled with nerve endings. There are typically two types of objects used, Penis Plugs and Sounds. Generally they are made from either metal or silicone. These pleasure objects should be sterilised before each session and lots of lube should be used to avoid damaging the soft tissue of the urethra.
So I hope I've given you some food for thought and also some useful information so you won't end up looking the fool like me, haha. Of course I have only touched on a few common kinks, the world if full of weird and wonderful practices.Whatever floats your boat right?
Wishing you happy thoughts and many orgasms!
